Everyone has their own formula for success, however after observing many successful people in my short life, I have come to a conclusion that they all have the three following characteristics in common:
Intelligence
Having knowledge is to have a solid foundation to your house. Intelligence, on the grand scheme, could be compared to the training sessions an athlete goes through before running a marathon. There are many ways to categorize knowledge, but the two most common are formal and informal knowledge, also known as book-smart and street-smart. A successful person will have substance in what they say - the capability to back their words with solid technical knowledge, and at the same time still know the right phrases to use to evoke certain emotions from the audience.
Diligence
A hard-worker may still be able to achieve things even if he may not be as smart. Diligent people are hustlers. They fill their time with work, waking earlier than everyone and sleeping later than most. A diligent person will measure their time in terms of productivity, and will fill their schedule with tasks, always working towards a goal. A smart but lazy person may not go as far as a slow but diligent person. Think turtle and hare in a race!
Resilience
In short, resilience means the ability to get back up after a fall. You can be smart and diligent, but if you don't have the power to get back up after you encounter an obstacle - and surely you will, it all is for naught. Resilience is a person's durability and stamina. Resilience is how long you can last running the marathon. The most resilient ones, no matter how intelligent or diligent, will be the ones to reach the end of the race.
